President honored memory of the victims of struggle and martyrdom of Polish and other nations in Poland

President Petro Poroshenko visited the Memorial to the victims of struggle and martyrdom of Polish and other nations in Poland. The Head of State laid a wreath and paid tribute to the victims.
The Majdanek State Museum, where the Memorial is located, was created in 1944 on the site of the former German Nazi concentration camp, which operated from October 1941 to July 1944.
Among the prisoners were Poles, Ukrainians, Jews, Belarusians, Russians, Czechs, a small number of French and German people. Starting from May 1943, soldiers of the Soviet Army were also taken to the camp.
The total number of prisoners of the concentration camp was about 150 thousand people. 80 thousand of them were executed: almost 60 thousand Jews. The rest of the executed were Poles, Belarusians, Ukrainians and Russians.
