President Petro Poroshenko paid a visit to the National Veterans Team, which is preparing for the Invictus Games, which will take place on October 20-27 in Sydney, Australia. He spoke to the members of the national team, the winners of the Invictus Games 2018, their coaches and got acquainted with the course of team preparation. Petro Poroshenko also had a dinner with our athletes.
"I think it is symbolic that our festive dinner is held on the Day of the Defender of Ukraine and the common prayer for our independent Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, so that it would not be guided by Moscow anymore," the President said.
"I was very pleased when thirty thousand people came, responded to the call to pray for Ukraine in one day," he added.
The President thanked veterans-athletes for their unity and support. "You do not imagine what a pleasure it is to remember Toronto, when Ukraine participated in the Invictus Games for the first time,” he said.
The President and veterans-athletes discussed the possibility of holding the Invictus Games in Kyiv after Australia.
"We have an absolute majority of conditions for that. The level of your performance gives us serious ambitions for the application. I am sure that it can be real. For this we just have to fight," Petro Poroshenko stressed and said that he spoke with founder of the Invictus Games Prince Harry, noting that "after Sydney, in the coming years, the Invictus Games will be held in Kyiv”. The athletes of the national team fully supported this idea of the President.
