Cooperation of Ukraine and Poland in the oil and gas industry will contribute to enhancement of the energy security

First Deputy Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Halyna Karp met with the State Secretary at the Chancellery
of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Government plenipotentiary for
strategic energy infrastructure Piotr Naimski.
Halyna Karp has briefed
interlocutors about significant measures undertaken towards drastic and comprehensive reforms in the
energy sector. Thus, the transformation of the energy sector of Ukraine in conformity
with the principles of market environment,
with business struggle as well as with norms of the European Union legislation
will encourage efficiency of the aforesaid sector as well as of the economy as
a whole and will promote the economic activity of entities in the energy sector
in particular.
The sides tackled upon the major spheres of cooperation:
- construction of gas interconnector Poland-Ukraine: the implementation
of this project will contribute to strengthening of the role of Poland and
Ukraine in the regional market of gas as transit countries that will enable
countries to tighten security of fuel supply in the region;
- construction of oil pipeline "Brody – Adamova Zastava" in the
framework of the project of the Euro-Asian Oil transportation Corridor (EAOTС) which involved both Ukrainian and Polish
companies.
The First Deputy Minister
underlined that Ukraine has the opportunity to ensure the supply of various grades
of oil to refining companies of Polish concern "ORLEN’’ in the Czech
Republic through the pipeline "Southern Druzhba".
Apart from that, Halyna Karp marked the
importance of implementing the pilot project "Energy Bridge Ukraine –
European Union", which could be one of the key elements designed to improve
the energy security.
The sides stressed that deepening of collaboration will have further
potentials for development, which will be mutually beneficial for both
countries.
The meeting was also attended by Chairman of the Supervisory Board
GAZ-SYSTEM S. A., representatives of the NJSC "Naftogaz
of Ukraine" as well as of the PJSC “UkrTransGas”.
