Ukraine is
ready to maintain strategic cooperation with Georgia on joining the NATO
Membership Action Plan, however, it does not set the
goal of joining the alliance simultaneously with Georgia, Ukrainian Deputy
Foreign Minister Oleksandr Kupchyshyn
said.
"Obviously,
a constructive dialogue, particularly at the level of experts, is being held on
this issue between our countries. In turn, both countries understand that we
are moving on our own path. Notwithstanding that Georgia and we have the same
strategic Euro-Atlantic interests, certain tactical things can be
different," he said.
Kupchyshyn
said that, on the one hand, Georgia had a higher level of support for joining
NATO than Ukraine, but, on the other hand, Ukraine had no problems with
"frozen conflicts" as Georgia has with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"The
MAP could be given to Ukraine and Georgia simultaneously, but this should not
be set as an ultimate goal," he said.
