We will make Ukraine energy independent - President on moving from gas consumption to own production

President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes that Ukraine will switch from energy consumption to its own production in the next five years. “When Putin traditionally blocked gas to Ukraine in 2015, expecting that Ukrainian Presidents and Prime Ministers will as usual crawl to Russia on their knees begging for gas ... We said it would not happen anymore. We are free, we are independent, we respect ourselves. And starting from 2015, we have not taken Russian gas," he said during a working visit to Ivano-Frankivsk region.
According to him, each year autumn ended with “accusations that Ukraine is stealing gas and conclusion of predatory contracts. Because they forced us to take 52 billion cubic meters of gas, which Ukraine did not need. What were they needed for? For corruption schemes," Petro Poroshenko said.
"How does it work now? Very simple: in 2017, Ukraine consumed 14 billion instead of 52 billion, in 2018 - 10.5 billion cubic meters, and in the next five years we will make Ukraine energy independent," the President emphasized.
"We will produce our gas. We will not buy it from abroad. This is our right path - independence," the Head of State emphasized.
He also recalled the fact that Ukraine, by a decision of the Stockholm Arbitration, had forced Russia to pay $ 4.6 billion, as an unfair price had been established under the contract with Gazprom, and Ukraine had to defend its interests.
