President Petro Poroshenko stressed the importance of adopting amendments to the Constitution regarding Ukraine"s membership in the EU and NATO adding that he plans to sign the relevant law in the Verkhovna Rada tomorrow.
"This is another step that will make the reforms irreversible. The law will be on the guard of the path we chose. However, the Kremlin has the last hope. He knows that he won’t get victories on the frontline. He no longer has any illusions in the Ukrainian government and calls - anyone except for Poroshenko. Dream on," the Head of State said during a meeting with creative intellectuals in the Ivano-Frankivsk Academic Music and Drama Theater.
"Hopes for the change of power - the Kremlin believes that old times will come back and Putin will decide who should be the President of Ukraine. Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia had its opinion on that matter and it would defend this opinion. Russia tries to interfere in our elections in the same way it did in European countries and the United States. However, the closer we get to the elections, the clearer it becomes that the President and the Parliament will definitely be chosen by the Ukrainian people not Putin. I hope they will really disappoint the president of the aggressor country," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
The President stresses that Ukraine is seeking NATO membership, as it is a security issue: "And not only security at the front, but security inside the country". Petro Poroshenko is confident that it will be safer on the streets due to this cooperation, as NATO standards include effective police and security services.
The Head of State paid special attention to the values of the European Union - the rule of law, democracy, freedom of speech and free democratic elections, as well as the living standards. "Compare life in the EU member-states live and the countries in the Russian sphere of interests. Compare the living conditions of the occupied Donbas, Transnistria, Ossetia and Abkhazia ... We definitely have to move to the EU," he said, noting that Ukraine should become a regional leader of free, prosperous, happy people.
