Russia is trying to destroy the Ukrainian statehood, which is confirmed, in particular by its aggressive actions in the Azov-Black Sea basin and the seizure of Ukrainian sailors. This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
"The goal of the Kremlin is to destroy the Ukrainian statehood, to create the so-called second version of the Soviet Union," the President said.
"Mr. President, you know very well what the Soviet Union is, what the Warsaw Pact is, what the past is, from which we came together with you. Only our effective actions, our solidarity will prevent the return to these grievous times," the President of Ukraine said.
"I am sincerely grateful to the whole democratic world, I sincerely thank the EU, I sincerely thank you for your personal support for Ukraine. This is a great pride for Ukraine when the President of the European Council together with the Ukrainian President speaks Ukrainian. You have forever entered history as a person who has done a great deal for Ukraine. And the Ukrainian people are very grateful to you. I am very happy that in these very important days for Ukraine, we are with you," Petro Poroshenko noted.
