On the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Act Zluky between the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic, President Petro Poroshenko presented high state awards to prominent Ukrainians who selflessly joined the process of building the Ukrainian state.
"It is a great honor to present today the awards on behalf of the state to honor prominent Ukrainians who stood at the origins of Ukraine's independence and express gratitude to the undisputable moral authorities of our nation," Petro Poroshenko said.
"On this important for every Ukrainian day - the Day of Unity of Ukraine, historic day, when we celebrate the centenary of the Day of Zluky, I thank you with all my heart for the joint creation of our home - mother Ukraine," the President addressed the audience.
The President stressed: "And our future is our common cause. I am sure that together we are strong. Together and only together we will definitely win".
He noted that Ukrainians had learned the history. "We will not repeat those mistakes. We will not lose the state. We will not lose the nation. We will not allow to go the way, when the country and the people paid a high price: victims of the Holodomor; victims of deportation; victims of the sixties, when people were imprisoned only for being Ukrainians," Petro Poroshenko said.
"Today, we are a great and united European nation, and we are proud of Ukraine," the President summarized.
