“Demagogues and populists spread rumors that Smila residents have to pay an increased gas price. With all responsibility, I emphasize that it is a lie. And I will personally control this issue. The tariff was, is and will remain similar to that of the entire Ukraine,” the President noted during the working visit to Cherkasy region.
The Head of State also addressed the new Cherkasy RSA Head: “Please, ensure that the tariffs are not charged for the period when people didn’t have access to heating. People shouldn’t and won’t pay for the services that were not provided. You must report me on this issue everyday until the problem is solved”.
The President particularly emphasized that all the residents of the region who have right to the subsidy should get it. “Poor people shouldn’t pay more,” Petro Poroshenko addressed the new RSA Head.
“We must clearly demonstrate that our first priority is the protection of the interests of people,” he said, adding that daily interaction and coordination with social services is important.
The President also reminded that the Cabinet of Ministers, within its responsibility, decided to raise gas tariffs. "As President, I have set an absolutely clear demand for the Government to ensure the protection of people and expand the subsidy program. To increase funds for its implementation. So that the pensioners or the unprotected groups of people are not affected by the increase," the President stressed.
According to him, the subsidy monetization program should be launched immediately. "Those who reduce the consumption of gas and heat should get money on cards promptly. Therefore, as a result of the measures taken, the poor will not only remain undamaged, but also get benefits," he said.
The President expressed confidence that this is an absolutely real and clear interaction between local authorities and the Government.
