Ukrainian border guards carry out a dangerous service not only on the frontline. It was stated by President Petro Poroshenko during a meeting with border guards in Cherkasy. The Head of State instructed to grant a state decoration to Vadym Berezensky, the border guard who heroically died on the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
"For several days, the whole country was shocked by the fact that, as a result of criminal actions at the border, head of the department of the Border Service "Dilove" of Mukachevo border detachment, Major Vadym Berezensky died heroically performing his official duties. The life of a young officer, son and father of two children tragically ended off," Petro Poroshenko said.
The President instructed to grant a state decoration immediately, provide an apartment and financial support to the family and report to him on that shortly.
"I will personally take care that the killer of the officer and his henchmen get what they deserve. They will bear responsibility for the crime they committed," the President added.
The attendees honored memory of Major Vadym Berezensky and all hero-border guards perished while performing their duty with a moment of silence.
