During the visit to the center of preparation of border guards, President Petro Poroshenko awarded border guards.
"Dear border guards, you are a heroic generation of patriots who are now writing the history of our state, the best state in the world - our Ukraine. You protect its right to independence, unity, sovereignty and the right of the Ukrainian state and Ukrainian people to a worthy European future," the President noted and wished the border guards health, goodness, happiness, inspiration and success in a difficult military service for the prosperity of our native Ukraine.
"For four years already, Ukraine has been protecting its land from the Russian aggressor. The border guards were the first to take the hit," the President said and shared his memories of the actions of our border guards in Izvaryne and Dovzhanske when Russian aggression against Ukraine has already begun.
The Head of State noted that the border guards will continue to receive everything they need to successfully carry out their tasks.
"It is equally important that the state is doing its best to mobilize all available resources so that the border guards and their families feel socially protected. The border infrastructure is developing, modern conditions of service are being created, housing is being built," the President said. He said that this year border guards have already received almost 200 apartments, and currently 24 residential buildings are under construction, two of which are scheduled to be completed this year, which will allow to provide 60 apartments more. In general, during 2018-2020, it is planned to provide border guards with about one and a half thousand apartments.
"In the near future, according to my task and the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, which approved the military budget, I gave an instruction to raise the level of monetary support, inter alia, of the Ukrainian border guards," the President said, emphasizing that "the first priority is the social protection of Ukrainian servicemen".
The President also congratulated border guards on the Day of Dignity and Freedom, which Ukraine will celebrate tomorrow. "This holiday reminds us of the irresistible force of these great values that make us, Ukrainians, a free people. On the same day, we honor those who defend them," Petro Poroshenko stressed.
