President Petro Poroshenko examined a newly built dormitory for the military in Lviv region.
The Head of State stressed that due to the efforts of the law enforcement bodies and the Prosecutor General's Office, 1.5 billion dollars of funds stolen by the previous government from the Ukrainian people were returned to the state budget. The President stressed that the financing of the army was the first priority for these funds, in particular, the creation of proper conditions for Ukrainian military contractors.
The Head of State reminded that mock-ups were demonstrated a year ago, and now there is an opportunity to inspect the first dormitories. "We agreed that we will not call them barracks. Because it's not a barrack. Today, when you enter the room, the block, there is an opportunity to take a shower, there is a bathroom and normal conditions, when two or three soldiers will be in the room. They have an opportunity to rest normally and prepare for the next day. And they have no problems other than concentrating on military training," the President emphasized.
The Head of State stressed that the next stage is studio apartments for sergeants at the cost of those funds. The President got acquainted with the mock-up of a compact apartment house for sergeant corps.
Also, the housing development program for servicemen is being discussed, in particular housing for officers and financial compensation for the possibility of purchasing housing. “The problem must be resolved. A person who completes 25 years of service must have a financial resource to buy housing. Everyone must have this opportunity. We must restore this justice. And we will find funds to ensure proper social protection of the military, including at the cost of additional mobilization of the funds stolen from Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko said.
