Volodymyr Groysman vows Government is committed to building a transparent gas market

The Ukrainian Government is committed to full de-monopolization of the
sector and building a transparent gas market in Ukraine. Prime Minister of
Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said to media people in Poltava region in the
framework of his working visit.
"I am a
supporter of the transparency of the gas market and the formation of a fair
price (for fuel inside the country)," stressed the Prime Minister.
He reminded
that such an objective – deregulation and shaping an efficient fuel market –
was set for the members of the newly appointed Supervisory Board of the
National Joint Stock Company "Naftogaz of Ukraine" being the major energy
company of the state.
Background
The
formation of a transparent gas market and unbundling (separation of operations
for transportation and storage (injection, withdrawal) of natural gas)
of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine is part of a general list of measures determined among
topmost priorities for the Government activities, as well as part of the agenda
of reforms being pursued by Ukraine in the framework of cooperation with
international partners.
On November
22, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a new Supervisory Board of NJSC Naftogaz
of Ukraine, comprising 4 independent members and 3 representatives of the Government.
The formed Supervisory Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine is completely
independent and unbiased. This will help improve corporate governance, increase
the competitiveness and investment attractiveness of the company, and enable
the company to more effectively address the challenges of in the process of
providing energy independence of the State and de-monopolization of the gas
market.
