The
Supervisory Board of Public Joint Stock Company Ukrainian Railway must be open
and independent. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced during A Question Time at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on
Friday.
"Today
our objective is: first, to replace the Supervisory Board [of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia] with an open independent Supervisory Board.
Currently there are officials, but there should be independent experts instead",
said Volodymyr Groysman.
Commenting
on the remark of an MP regarding the management of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia,
the Prime Minister noted that it is unfair to place all responsibility for the state
of affairs in the company on the new Director alone who has taken office in May.
He noted
that Ukrzaliznytsia had deliberately been destroyed and
used as a source of funds to waste instead of being spent on modernization.
The current
policy of Ukrzaliznytsia’s management is to bail it
out, stressed Volodymyr Groysman.
According
to him, the company’s leaders have set an objective to provide efficient
transportation of goods and passengers for a year. With this purpose, the administrative
staff, in particular, launched placement of orders on modernization of cars,
improvement of the management system.
However, it
is difficult to break the old system inside the company. Volodymyr
Groysman urged this resistance should be overcome and
it is crucial to make this important and powerful national company Ukrzaliznytsia a truly open enterprise with billions in revenues
that will be invested in the economy, rolling stock and the quality of their
work.
