In October Kyiv
is to host a second joint investment conference, and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be officially opened. Such agreements
were reached at a meeting of Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman with German Chancellor Angela Merkel
during his working visit to Germany on Monday, June 27.
At a joint press
conference following the meeting with Angela Merkel, Volodymyr Groysman
informed that the second
joint investment conference and the launch of the German- Chamber of Commerce and Industry "will create a real and effective
mechanism for strengthening economic ties between Ukraine and Germany."
The Prime
Minister pointed out that Germany is a leader in terms of investing in Ukraine
and urged German businesses to step up investment activity. "The message to
German business is: we want your business in Ukraine to be successful," he
said.
"The most
important thing that should be done by the Government today is to ensure the national
economic growth, an increase in incomes of people. We have a great potential.
And I deem that the deepening of our relations in the economic sphere with Germany
and the involvement of German business in investment and further investment in
the Ukrainian economy is a key priority of our activity," Volodymyr Groysman
emphasized.
The Prime
Minister noted that the sides discussed prospects of cooperation in the
economic sphere as well as actions of the newly formed Government of Ukraine.
Volodymyr
Groysman informed the German Chancellor about the first steps of the Ukrainian Government
aimed at achieving macro-economic stability of the state, particularly in the
areas of deregulation, energy market reform, the beginning of the privatization
of state enterprises and the civil service reform. According to him, the
effective fight against corruption is on the agenda of the Government. Also the
Ukrainian Parliament has launched the judicial reform, he said.
"These are
those steps that will create the right conditions for the protection of human
rights, protection of investments and normal, proper conditions for doing
business in Ukraine," Volodymyr Groysman highlighted.
