The President of Ukraine requires increasing the efficiency of the public prosecution in the fight against corruption, investigation of resonant criminal cases and crimes against Maidan activists.
It was stated by him at the meeting with representatives of the public prosecution on the occasion of the Day of Prosecutor. Petro Poroshenko congratulated the participants of the meeting on their professional holiday. At the same time, the President emphasized that he and the public were not satisfied with the actions of the public prosecution.
"The society has a lot of complaints regarding the activity of the Prosecutor General"s Office and local public prosecutor"s offices. People are also discontented with the slow pace of your structure"s reformation," the President stressed. According to him, the majority of complaints are related to the lengthy investigation of resonant criminal cases, impunity of former senior officials, failure to return all stolen public funds and the fact that corrupt prosecutors are still holding their positions.
The President particularly underlined the necessity of completing the investigation into tragic events on Maida. He noted that amnesty or any agreements would be out of discussion in that matter.
"I require increasing the efficiency of the public prosecution," the President emphasized. The Head of State added: "The public prosecution should strictly respond to malversation, abuse of power and corruption among civil servants. Legitimacy of public procurement and illegal deals with land resources need more attention as well".
At the same time, Petro Poroshenko urged to improve the information activities of the Prosecutor General"s Office. "Feel free to wash dirty linen in public. Let"s clear our house from corrupt officials and criminals before the big repair. You should tell the public about the results of your work more actively," the Head of State emphasized.
